Johannesburg - Over five hundred people have been arrested in an operation to remove illegal car window washers from the streets of Johannesburg, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said on Saturday.
“The focus of the operation is to target illegal window washers and smash-and-grab criminals.” JMPD spokesman Wayne Minnaar said
The operation, dubbed Ke Molao, was initiated on February 11.
Minnaar said there had been a considerable decline in the number of crimes happening at intersections in central Johannesburg.
The operation will continue to focus on identified hotspots.
