Johannesburg - At least 309 motorists were arrested for alleged speeding and drunk driving in Johannesburg since the start of the Easter holidays, metro police said on Saturday.

Johannesburg metro police spokesman chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar said 21 were arrested for speeding, while 288 were arrested for driving drunk across the city.

“Among the alleged speedsters was a 24-year-old woman who was caught on Friday driving a BMW at 128 km per hour in a 60km zone,”Minnaar said.

“We urge motorists to obey the rules of the road and not drive at high speed or drive while under the influence of alcohol.” - African News Agency
