Johannesburg - Nine children were left injured this morning after a taxi and light motor vehicle collided in Fleurhof, paramedics said on Friday.

The accident happened at the Main Reef and Nadine Road intersection on Friday morning.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi on one side of the road while the light motor vehicle was found parked on the other road a short distance away.

"Several children were found walking around on the scene.

"Paramedics assessed the children and found that that nine of the nineteen that had been in the taxi had been injured. The injuries sustained were fortunately only minor."

The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

Meiring said the driver of the taxi and driver of the light motor vehicle fortunately escaped unharmed.

He added that the exact cause of the collision was not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
