PICS: Man arrested in Joburg with bombs and guns

Johannesburg - Police on Wednesday said they had arrested a 32-year-old man found in possession of explosives, four illegal pistols and ammunition in Johannesburg 

South Africa Police Services (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Xoli Mbele said the arrest was made on Tuesday at the of corner Pritchard and Nugget Streets on Tuesday afternoon. 

Mbele said police received a "tip off" about an armed man who was driving silver Audi A4. They were told the man was in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. 

Police responded and found the car parked at the corner of Pritchard and Nugget Streets, but there was no one inside. 

Mbele said police officers waited until the driver returned and got inside before they made their  move..

"They searched the vehicle and explosives, false number plates, money stained with a blue ink, four unlicensed firearms with no serial numbers and ammunition were recovered,"  said Mbele.

The suspect is expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court soon.
