Plumbers discover foetus while unblocking drain in Kempton Park

Johannesburg - Plumbers called to unblock a drain at an Ekurhuleni suburb were in for a shock when they discovered a foetus dumped in a drain.

The foetus was reportedly found on Wednesday night at around 6pm in Birchleigh, Kempton Park.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring explained how the plumbers made the shocking discovery.

"The plumbers had apparently spotted the body after being called out [to attend to] a blocked drain.

"Paramedics were [then] called to the scene around 10pm and found the body lying on the pavement showing no signs of life."

Meiring said it had been evident to paramedics that the foetus had been dead for some time, adding that nothing more could be done by paramedics.

He added that local authorities however, were on the scene to investigate the matter further.
