Johannesburg - Three people were killed and at least one other injured following a shooting incident in Tembisa, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm outside a shop on Second October Street.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring explained that ER24 paramedics, along with the Provincial Services, arrived on the scene at around 1.50pm to find a taxi parked outside a small shop.

"The bodies of two men were found lying in the taxi while a third was found lying a few metres away.

"Paramedics assessed the patients and found that they had sustained numerous gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead."

While Meiring confirmed that one more person was injured and was treated and transported by the Provincial Services to a nearby hospital, police put the number of those injured at two.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said that the motive of shooting remained unknown but added that police were investigating.

"A case of attempted murder and murder has been opened and no arrests have been made," he said.
