Johannesburg - Metrorail train services were disrupted in several areas of Gauteng on Thursday morning due to power failures, the company said.

Spokesman Tony Games said trains running from Pretoria to Johannesburg and back were running 20 minutes late due to power failures and faulty trains.

“Power failures in Nigel have affected the movement of trains and technicians have established that a cable was stolen.”

Trains in Tembisa were being manually authorised as a panel was out.

In Lawley and Midway tracks were out, causing 20 minutes delays which were affecting Vereeniging trains.

“At Luipaardsvlei tracks are also out which is negatively affecting Randfontein trains, while the Pretoria North panel has affected all Pretoria trains.”

“The manual authorisation of trains has resulted in slow movement of trains in the entire Pretoria complex, causing major delays (in) Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa and Mamelodi.”

Games said section managers had been sent to the affected areas to authorise the safe movement of trains. - Sapa
