Johannesburg - Electricity supply has been restored in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, following an explosion at a power station, the municipality said on Monday.

“We would like to thank our engineers for working around the clock to ensure that power is restored before the evening deadline,” spokesperson Themba Gadebe said in a statement.

He also thanked Kempton Park residents for their patience during the power outage.

Gadebe said preliminary investigations indicated that the explosion was possibly caused by cable faults.

The explosion occurred at the Aston Manor sub-station around 2am on Friday, leaving most suburbs in the area without power.

Affected areas included Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Bonaero Park, and parts of Pomona and Glen Marais. - Sapa
