Johannesburg - A warrant officer arrested for allegedly raping a teenage girl in Mamelodi, north of Pretoria, would appear in the Mamelodi West Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) said.
The policeman was out on bail for two other rape cases at the time of his arrest, said Ipid spokesman Moses Dlamini.
He said the 48-year-old officer was expected to bring a formal bail application, which Ipid would oppose.
The man is accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in April this year.
Dlamini said the teenager's guardian asked the community police forum to talk to the girl when she refused to do her chores.
The officer fetched the girl from her house, and indicated to the family that she would be attended to by a female officer.
Instead, he took her to a fast food outlet and bought her a meal, before taking her to his house and raping her. He went back to fetch her the next day.
“As he was preparing to rape the girl, she managed to escape after asking to go to the toilet,” said Dlamini.
She reported the matter to police she came across while fleeing.
Dlamini said the warrant officer handed himself over to police a week later. - Sapa
