Johannesburg - Kempton Park model agency boss Dawie De Villiers made a request on Thursday in the Johannesburg High Court to remain a free man until 2018.

"We'd like to be granted a postponement to 22 January 2018 due to the probation officer being diagnosed with breast cancer," Advocate Riaan Greyling told Judge Namavidi during a brief appearance.

The founder of Modelling South Africa (PTY) was found guilty of rape, sexual assault, sexual grooming, fraud, exposure of pornography to children and access to child pornography in February.

State prosecutor Arveena Persad said there was a misunderstanding as to why the matter didn't proceed today [Thursday].

The matter was provisionally postponed to 13 October for Judge Cassim Moosa to be available to make a ruling on whether he would be granting the lengthy postponement.

De Villiers's bail of R15 000 was extended.
