Johannesburg - The South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) on Sunday urged communities to celebrate the new year festivities responsibly and to take care of children.
"Parents should at all material times know where their children are to ensure their safety. Adherence to strict adult supervision and consideration for animals should accompany fireworks displays," Sanco national spokesperson Jabu Mahlangu said.
He appealed for vigilance against opportunistic crime and to motorists not to drink and drive, to reduce the carnage on public roads.
“Emergency personnel and law enforcement must be sober while on their jobs for prompt response to emergencies and effective policing,” Mahlangu said.
