Johannesburg  - A Gauteng school bus driver has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a teenage schoolgirl, Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said on Sunday.

"Unfortunately, he will never be allowed in our schooling environment; these activities will not be allowed to prevail in our space," Lesufi said.

The Gauteng education department said in a statement that a 44-year old school bus driver had allegedly sexually assaulted a 13-year old pupil on October 13 and 16 this year.

"The case was subsequently reported to the police by the learner and an educator. The said perpetrator was arrested on Friday, 20 October 2017. He will appear on Monday, 23 October 2017, in the Lenasia Magistrate's Court," the department said.
