Scores injured after two trains collide in Kempton Park

Kempton Park - More than 200 people have reportedly been left injured after two trains collided in Kempton Park, paramedics said on Thursday. 

The train accident happened at the Van Riebeeck station on Thursday afternoon. 

Various paramedic services confirmed the collision, with Netcare 911 placing injuries at around 200. 

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said paramedics responded to reports of a serious train crash at the Van Riebeeck train station.

"Reports from the scene indicate that over two hundred people sustained varying degrees of injuries in the collision between two passenger trains.

"Currently Netcare 911, Fire and Rescue Services, ambulance services as well as the SAPS are on scene, this is a developing story and an update will follow."

Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng also confirmed the collision at the station.

"We can confirm the collision," she told IOL. 

Details are sketchy at this point but authorities are on the scene of the collision.
