Johannesburg – Sedibeng district in Gauteng achieved the best results in 2015 matric examinations, beating the country’s other 80 districts, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said on Tuesday.

Sedibeng was followed by Gauteng West, the Overberg district in the Western Cape and the Cape Metropolitan area.

“We congratulate Sedibeng for the best district performance. I should state that in the Free State, Thabo Mofutsanyana distric led that province, Cradock led in the Eastern Cape and Vhembe district has the best result in Limpopo,” said Motshekga.

Eight of the 81 districts achieved below 50 percent, she said. Seven of these district were in the Eastern Cape and one was in KwaZulu-Natal.

“No district in the Western Cape performed below 80 percent,” Motshekga said to a loud applause from the audience.
