Johannesburg - A 31-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of ANC MP Sibusiso Radebe, police confirmed on Wednesday.

The suspect's arrest follows an intelligence-driven operation seeking four suspects linked to crimes in and around the Joburg West cluster.

According to Gauteng spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters, the suspect was nabbed in the early hours of August 11 in Braamfischerville in Soweto.

"Police seized a vehicle, a green Chevrolet Spark, confirmed to have been hijacked in Krugersdorp, as well as suspected stolen property worth an estimated R10 000.

"Upon further investigation, police were able to conclusively link the suspect to the murder of the late MP."

Radebe was shot dead during a botched hijacking in Roodepoort in June.

Reacting to the arrest was Gauteng Provincial Commissioner of police, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange who urged the investigating team to ensure that the remaining three suspects are also caught and brought to book.

"Trio crimes are often violent in nature. Such arrests should therefore encourage the members on the ground that their long hours and selfless commitment are not in vain," said the provincial commissioner in commending the work done by the Investigators."
