Johannesburg - A taxi driver ran away from an accident scene where a man was killed on Friday morning in Montgomery Park, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) said.
Spokesman Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said a man, believed to be in his thirties, died after the taxi went through a red light and collided with an Audi A3 at the Beyers Naude and Preller road intersection.
After the crash, the taxi driver fled the scene and was still at large.
“The JMPD will lodge a case of culpable homicide against the taxi driver. The deceased was a passenger in the taxi,” Minnaar said.
Eight people were injured and taken to the nearby Helen Joseph Hospital.
