Johannesburg - The man accused of killing Thembisile Yende has been denied bail in the Springs Magistrate's Court.

The 44-year-old David Ngwenya, who was Yende’s colleague, is being charged with premeditated murder.

It was revealed in court that Ngwenya, who is a technician at Eskom, stated that Yende's family had made a phone call to him claiming that they knew were he lives and where his children go to school.

This claim was denied by Yende's family stating that they have never spoken or called the accused and made such accusations.

Earlier this week the State argued in court that Ngwenya was allegedly part of a copper syndicate Yende knew about and that she was due to blow the whistle on them.

Ngwenya will remain in police custody and will appear on 17 July for further investigations.
