Carletonville - Three people were killed and three others were injured when a car hit a pedestrian and then collided with a minibus taxi on East Driefontein Road in Carletonville on the West Rand on Saturday morning, paramedics said.

"It is believed that a pedestrian was killed after being knocked down by a vehicle after which the vehicle then collided with a taxi," ER24 spokeswoman Ineke van Huyssteen said.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before 10 am they found two people in the back seat of the car. They showed no signs of life and were declared dead on the scene.

The car driver was still trapped in the car. The driver had to be extricated with the jaws-of-life. He sustained moderate injuries. One other patient sustained serious injuries and another sustained moderate injuries.

ER24, as well as other medical services on the scene, transported the patients to hospital for further medical care. The exact circumstances surrounding the accident were not yet known, Van Huyssteen said.
