Johannesburg - Three people were killed in accidents in Johannesburg overnight, Johannesburg metro police said on Sunday morning.

Just after 10pm on Saturday, a middle-aged man was killed when he lost control of his Nissan Hardbody double cab on the N1 south just past the Allandale on ramp, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

The man's car hit a concrete barricade and he was flung from the vehicle.

The man's partner and her three-year-old son were taken to hospital.

In another accident on the M1 near the Grayston off ramp, a Porsche sedan lost control in heavy rain and crashed into the back of a taxi, causing it to overturn.

A woman was killed and two women, aged 24 and 71, were injured.

In a third accident, around 1am on Sunday, a 32-year-old man was killed when he stopped his van in the emergency lane on the M1

south.

Minnaar said that a passing car hit the man, who had climbed out of his vehicle, and that this car failed to stop.

“Motorists are urged to reduce speed in the rain as the road surface becomes slippery when wet,” Minnaar said. - Sapa
