Two planes collided at Pretoria's Wonderboom Airport on Tuesday afternoon, injuring three people.

Tshwane metro spokesperson Console Tleane said the accident happened shortly after 5pm.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics treated three people who were then taken to hospital.

One was in a critical condition while the other two were in a serious condition, he said.

Tleane said one of the airport's runways had been closed, but that the airport was still open with a second runway in operation.

“The exact cause of the accident is not known. Civil Aviation Authority will investigate,” he said.

It is believed that the collision happened as one plane was landing and another was preparing for take-off. -
