"Upon closer inspection, paramedics found two people lying inside the front of the taxi. Paramedics extricated the patients and assessed them.

"One man was found with numerous injuries and no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead."

The second patient was found to be in a serious condition while thirteen others were assessed on the scene and found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.

Meiring confirmed that the patients were treated and those with serious injuries given advanced life support interventions before being transported to nearby hospitals for further care.

"Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations," he confirmed.
