Johannesburg - Former president Nelson Mandela's grandchildren collected floral tributes from outside his house in Houghton, Johannesburg, on Friday afternoon.

Ndaba Mandela knelt to pick a bunch of flowers and waved at people gathered outside the house to pay their respects. He took the flowers inside the house.

Mandela died at the house on Thursday night, at the age of 95. His funeral will be held at his hometown of Qunu, in the Eastern Cape on December 15.

A mourner, Thabo Pule, said Mandela had been able to unite people in his life and his death.

“It is not by mistake that a huge crowd has gathered here. Mandela touched their life in a way. He was a unifier,” he said.

He said Mandela had not hit back at those who imprisoned him for 27 years.

“He left us a legacy to forgive. He was such a humble person.”
