Rare Scottish whisky valued at R260 000 has been stolen from the plush Cape Grace Hotel's specialist storage facility in Observatory.

The 23 cases of 16-year-old Lagavulin - one of the world's most popular single malts and difficult to replace as demand far outstrips supply - were the last consignment to enter the country a year ago, said Arnold Vorster, the hotel's sommelier.
