Mandini - Six family members were shot in their beds by gunmen in the early hours on Saturday morning in Mankenshaneni Reserve, Undumbili, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Dolly Manqele, 67, Mkhanyifeleni Manqele, 40, Sithembile Khumalo, 14, Vuyani Gwala, 8, Nokwanda Gwala, 5, and Nombulelo Gwala, 6, were sleeping at their homestead when they were shot.

Two other family members were out at the time and found their relatives dead when they returned on Saturday morning.

One of those absent at the time of the attack said he believed it was a revenge attack following an incident a few weeks ago in Durban where one of the deceased had an argument with some people.

Police Inspector Msizi Ngcobo said six murder cases had been opened. - Sapa
