Durban - The organisers of a sports and cultural festival for disabled people, to be hosted at Durban’s Hoy Park grounds tomorrow, are hoping some of the spirit of the Paralympic Games.
Phindile Makhaphela, of organisers Faith Life Ministries, said they were expecting 600 disabled participants from Durban and its surrounds at the Agape Love Sports and Culture Festival.
Participants will also exhibit craftwork at the event, which coincides with the start of Heritage month.
There will be soccer, netball, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and a wheelchair race. “It is going to be a truly wonderful occasion to celebrate spring day during this festival,” said Makhaphela.
She said the event aimed to raise awareness of disability, and that they were hoping the public would come in numbers to support the festival, in the same way Londoners and TV audiences worldwide had embraced the Paralympics.
The Open Air School choir was expected to take part in the opening ceremony. - Daily News
