All lanes of the N3 to Pinetown in KwaZulu-Natal were blocked on Tuesday following an accident involving three trucks and a car, said paramedics.

“The entire roadway is obstructed. One person was freed from the wreckage of one of the trucks,” said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.

The crash occurred next to the Pavilion shopping centre, before the Chesterville offramp.

“Two people sustained serious injuries. They were transported to St Augustine's Hospital in Durban,” said Botha.

The accident, which took place at about 1pm, would take some time to clear, he said. – Sapa
