The body of 14-year-old Nomthandazo Chili, who disappeared in last week’s devastating storm, has been recovered.

Police divers from the SAPS Search and Rescue unit in Durban, were called out to KwaMakhutha to recover the girl’s body from the Ezimbokodweni River on Sunday night.

Nomthandazo was washed into a swollen river while she was crossing a bridge on her way home from school last Tuesday.

She clung to a tree branch for a few moments, before the tree’s trunk gave way and she was swept off.

Nomthandazo’s family was last week still hopeful that the Grade 9 pupil would be found alive.

The storm left more than 15 people dead and several are still missing.

On Friday, police recovered the body of a 48-year-old woman who disappeared in Isipingo.

Her two toddler daughters’ bodies were discovered a day earlier.

But Little Okuhle Kweyama, who disappeared in Umlazi D Section, is still missing.
