KwaZulu-Natal - A man drowned when trying to cross the Illovo River near Amanzimtoti in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said the man, 32, was on his way to work when this happened.

“He landed in a current and was swept downstream for about 200m before disappearing under the water,” said Botha.
