A man handed himself over to police last week regarding the murder of a taxi boss in Wartburg area in September.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested and is facing attempted murder and murder charges related to the killing of a taxi boss.
Zakahle Welcome Mkhize was arrested for the murder of a taxi owner who was shot and killed on September 13 this year.
The taxi owner was in his bakkie at Brunyshill turn-off in Wartburg area when he was attacked, said police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane. He and a passenger were shot several times while in the vehicle and died on the scene. The passenger was taken to hospital for treatment.
“Detectives began their investigation and a suspect was traced and located in Durban. It was established that the suspect was found to be working but upon the arrival of police, the man fled.”
Zwane said Mkhize handed himself over to the Wartburg Police Station this past Thursday, where he was arrested and charged.
Mkhize’s licensed firearm was seized. It will be subjected to ballistic tests to establish if it was used in any other crime.
An identification parade was conducted and he was positively identified by witnesses.
Mkhize appeared in the New Hanover Magistrate’s Court on Friday. He was remanded until November 16 for his bail application.
