Man killed, 15 hurt by lightning in KZN

Durban – A man was killed in a lightning strike near Dundee in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday.

Robert McKenzie, spokesman for the KwaZulu-Natal provincial Emergency Medical Service, said that apart from the man, who was believed to be about 40 years old, another 15 people were also injured in lightning strikes in the Umzinyati district.

They were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The incident in which the man was killed took place about six kilometres from Dundee, on the road to Greytown.

More details were not immediately available.

McKenzie urged people to stay indoors during storms and keep doors and windows closed.
