Durban - A man was killed and another was injured when they were held up at a farm in Nyoni, in the Ilembe District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

The slain man, 56, was at his 54-year-old brother’s farm at the time of the incident, said Colonel Jay Naicker.

“(On Tuesday) three unknown gunmen armed with assault rifles entered the farm and opened fire on both men. The farmer’s brother died on the scene and the farmer was injured and taken to hospital,” Naicker said in a statement.

The suspects stole two rifles from the premises before fleeing, he said.

Police are investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and robbery.

KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the murder and robbery.

“We will do everything within our control to hunt down these ruthless killers. We would advise them to hand themselves over and always sleep with one eye open,” Ngobeni said.
