Durban - A man who went missing while swimming the Midmar Mile in Howick, outside Pietermaritzburg, on the weekend has not been found, KwaZulu-Natal police siad on Wednesday evening.

Lieutenant Jack Haskins of the search and rescue unit said: “He has not been found yet, we are still continuing the search”.

At 7pm there were still three boats out searching for 43-year-old Herman “Thabo” van Straten.

Van Straten was reported missing after he failed to emerge at the end of the swimming race on Saturday.

On Tuesday, Van Straten's fiancee Shane Jones reportedly complained she did not get proper help from the event organisers on Saturday.

Jones told The Star she was “pushed around from pillar to post” when trying to report Van Straten missing.

Jones said organisers went ahead with the next event after he went missing.

In 2011, Nick Mellet went missing during the 38th aQuelle Midmar Mile race. His body was found four days later.
