Durban – Three members of the same family, including an eight-year-old child, have been murdered in Kwazulu-Natal, police said in a statement on Monday.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a complaint was received on Friday, August 19 at about 10pm.
The police officers proceeded to the scene where they found three deceased family members, who were identified as Thandokwakhe Bhengu, 35, and her two children - Lindelani Bhengu, 16, and Lungisani Bhengu, 8. Thandokwakhe and Lindelani Bhengu were fatally shot while the body of Lungisani was found hanged on a pole with a rope, Zwane said.
The murders happened at the Mzunga area, Ndwedwe, and police are appealing to the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrests of the perpetrators.
This is the second gruesome attack on a family in KwaZulu-Natal in a week.
On Friday, four people were arrested for shooting and hacking to death three members of a KwaZulu-Natal family, including a pregnant woman.
The crime took place at Zululiyaduma area in Melmoth, in northern KwaZulu-Natal, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
A 49-year-old mother, her 23-year-old son, and pregnant 27-year-old daughter were hacked with a bush knife and shot.
One of the family members, a 30-year-old woman, survived the attack and was taken to hospital where she was reported to be in a critical condition.
The suspects in this incident were expected to appear in the Melmoth Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
