Johannesburg - A new Africa record was set when thousands of sandcastles were built in an hour on a Durban beach on Saturday.

Over 800 people, including local celebrities got to work at the Bay of Plenty, in an attempt to break the current Guinness world record of 2230 sandcastles in an hour, said Chrsitel Liebenberg, spokeswoman for Durban-based financial services provider The Unlimited.

“Although The Unlimited team did not crack the Guinness world record, the international adjudicator Fortuna Burke, said this is the first time that the sandcastle record had been attempted on the African continent,” said Liebenberg. - Sapa
