KwaZulu-Natal - One person was killed and three were injured in two pile-ups on Van Reenen's Pass, between Harrismith and the Tugela toll plaza in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday, said emergency workers.

“Paramedics found that the initial accident was between four trucks and two cars,” Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said.

One person was killed and another was critically injured.

“Another crash occurred as other vehicles approaching the accident scene tried to slow down.”

Four trucks and two vehicles crashed into each other a short distance from the first crash.

“Two people were found to have sustained serious injuries,” he said.

The injured were stabilised on the scene and were taken to hospital. - Sapa
