Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal - A woman who is 37 weeks pregnant was injured when the car she was travelling in overturned outside Ladysmith on Thursday, emergency services said.

The 20-year-old was rushed to the Ladysmith Hospital where staff told ANA she was under observation for bleeding or other complications ER24 said.

“The doctors are examining her. We are keeping her still to see if she is going into labour and looking for signs of internal bleeding,” said a nurse who asked not to be identified.

“Anything can happen at this stage.”

According to ER24 paramedics, the woman was found lying by the side of a dirt road next to the car, which had flipped onto its roof, with two other passengers sitting beside her.

They were also treated for injuries and taken to hospital.

The cause of the accident was not known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
