Durban - Three children died and 14 other people were injured when a sugar-cane truck and a minibus collided in Pongola in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, paramedics said.

The children, aged between seven and 15, were travelling in the minibus at the time, Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert McKenzie said.

Three children died at the scene, while 13 other children and the minibus driver sustained injuries.

“Two of the children have been critically injured and the remaining passengers sustained serious injuries,” said McKenzie.

They were treated on the scene before being taken to Itshelejuba Hospital for further medical care.

“The cause of the collision is being investigated by the police,” said McKenzie. - Sapa
