A woman was arrested for allegedly hiring a hitman to kill her husband so she could cash in on his insurance policies, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.
“The woman was arrested this morning at 3am. The woman later confessed to police and pointed out the hitman to them,” said Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge.
On Monday last week the body of her 46-year-old husband was found with 14 gunshot wounds, in a KwaMashu hostel.
“The man was a cleaner at the Durban Central Police Station,” said Mdunge.
Investigations revealed that prior to the man's death, the woman, 33, had allegedly demanded to know who was the beneficiary of the man’s policies.
“She found out that she was the beneficiary and allegedly hired a hit man. On the same day the man was attacked and killed,” said Mdunge.
He said investigations revealed that the wife was implicated in the murder and she was arrested on Tuesday.
“The 34-year-old hitman who was allegedly hired to kill the husband was arrested in KwaMashu. He led police to the area where he had hidden the murder weapon,” said Mdunge.
He said the two suspects were facing murder charges and would appear at the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court soon. -
