A man has been seriously injured after crashing through the roof of a warehouse in Jacobs, south of Durban.

A factory worker has been rushed to hospital after falling through a ceiling in Jacobs, south of Durban.

Netcare 911’s Nick Dollman said on Wednesday that at around 10am, a 49-year-old man was packing food products into large bags in a warehouse when the incident occurred.

He tried to move from one side of the top of the pile of products to the other, and stepped on a false ceiling.

He apparently lost his footing and fell about four metres.

Dollman said the man was treated for several possible fractures.

“He was attended to by advanced life support paramedics and had to be given analgesic medication to get his pain under control, before he could be moved,” Dollman said.

He said the man was transported to a local hospital in a relatively stable condition, for further care.

Earlier in the day a man died and four others were injured when their boat capsized off Umkomaas. It is believed that a group of five people were aboard the vessel when it flipped.
