About 250 yearlings will go under the hammer at the Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale on July 5 and 6, which will tie into the racing festivities of the Vodacom Durban July.

The auction criteria are stringent – only the most exceptional young colts, fillies and thoroughbreds will feature.

Racehorse owners will be eligible to compete in three exciting horse races to the value of R1 million each, provided that the horses are bought at the sale.

And an additional R1-million bonus will be awarded to the racehorse owner who wins all three annual races, provided that there is a winner.

Suncoast managing director Mike Dowsley said Suncoast was proud to be associated with the event for the second year in a row, as the KZN Yearling Sale always enjoyed first-class participants and public support.

There are three incentives offered by Suncoast, in partnership with the KZN Breeders’ Club.

First, the KZN Breeders’ Million Mile – previously known as the KZN Breeders 1600 – will hold a R1-million race this year. The race will take place on Sunday, July, 1 at Greyville Racecourse, one week ahead of the Vodacom Durban July. It is open only to KZN-bred three-and four-year-old horses.

Secondly, a new R1-million race for juvenile horses will be introduced in 2013 and will be restricted to graduates of this year’s Yearling sale.

The race will be held at Greyville Racecourse during the Durban July.

Thirdly, there will be a R1-million bonus for any horse that wins the R1-million juvenile race in 2013, as well as the KZN Breeders’ Million Mile in 2014 and 2015.
