Death toll in horror Limpopo accident climbs to 12

Johanenesburg - A 12th person has died in hospital following the horror road accident in which a minibus taxi hit a donkey before colliding with a truck on the N1 in Botlokwa, Limpopo. 

Police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said a case of culpable homicide was being investigated in the Thursday night accident where eleven people died instantly. 

"Eleven people from the minibus taxi died instantly, including three who burnt beyond recognition. Three survived with serious injuries and they were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

"One of the three injured victims passed on this morning [Friday] in hospital, bringing the death toll to 12. The truckdriver, who was travelling alone, survived with no injuries.'' 

The 12 were yet to be identified as forensic investigations continued to determine their identities.  

The minibus taxi was travelling from Makhado towards Polokwane when it struck the truck which was travelling to the opposite direction towards Makhado.
