Tzaneen - Tzaneen police were looking for more than eight armed men who attacked and robbed a security company car transporting money, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.

Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said police in Maake launched a manhunt after a security vehicle was robbed on Monday night along the R36 between Tzaneen and Lydenburg, near Ofcolaco.

Around 7.30pm occupants of a white Ford Ranger started shooting at the security van from behind, forcing the driver to stop, Ngoepe said.

They cut open a safe inside the van and drove off with an undisclosed amount of money. During the robbery passing motorists were stopped. Their keys were taken out of the ignition and thrown into the bushes.

No one was injured. The gang used a white Ford Ranger, Nissan, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
