Burgersfort - Police in Burgersfort in Limpopo have launched a massive manhunt for a group of armed suspects who killed a security guard during an ATM robbery at a bank within the Twin City complex on Friday.

It was alleged that about 18 heavily armed suspects "stormed into the complex driving a silver/grey [Nissan] Navara, a silver Audi A4, and a white Golf 6 VW, and instructed the security officers to lie down", Lt-Col Moatshe Ngoepe said.

Some of the suspects "closed" the R555 to Ohrigstad and the R37 next to Twin City and started shooting randomly. They subsequently used power grinders to open two ATMs and an undisclosed amount of money was stolen.

During the robbery, a security officer in his 40s was shot dead. The Navara was later found some distance away from the crime scene "with blood inside". The ownership of the bakkie was being investigated.

"The suspects are still unknown, there is no arrest, and [the] police investigation is still continuing.

Anyone with information about the suspects in this matter may contact Captain Boshomane at 079-894-5501, or the nearest police station or the crime stop number 08600-10111 or the crime line sms 32211," Ngoepe said.
