Johannesburg - A memorial service will be held at the Standard Bank Arena on Thursday by the SA Football Association to pay tribute to Bafana goalkeeper and captain Senzo Meyiwa, female professional boxer Phindile Mwelase and Olympic silver medalist Mbulaeni Mulaudzi.

Meyiwa, who was also the Orlando Pirates captain, was shot dead in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, while visiting his girlfriend, singer and actress Kelly Khumalo, on Sunday night.

The Ekurhuleni metropolitan municipality council would also pay tribute to Meyiwa at the Germiston Council Chamber while Gauteng premier David Makhura and Gauteng police commissioner Lesetja Mothiba were expected to visit his family in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal.

On Saturday, female professional boxer Phindile Mwelase died after being in a coma for two weeks. She had been admitted at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria.

The 31-year-old light welterweight boxer slipped into a coma after being knocked out in a fight against Liz Butler in Pretoria on October 10.

Former Olympic athlete Mulaudzi was killed in a car crash on Friday. He was an 800m Athens 2004 Olympics silver medalist and a Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Games gold medalist.

A flag bearer for South Africa at the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Athens, Mulaudzi became South Africa's first black athlete to be ranked number one in the world.

After a decorated career which spanned over a decade, the 34-year-old retired last year.
