Middelburg – Sixteen people were injured when a minibus taxi and a truck collided on the N4 Woestalleen Road in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, late on Friday night, paramedics said.

ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, arrived on the scene and found both vehicles in the middle of the road, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

The taxi had sustained severe damage. On inspection, paramedics discovered that 16 people had been injured, two of them critically.

“Emergency crews set up a staging area, treating the patients, and providing the two critically injured with numerous advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to Middelburg Provincial Hospital for [further] urgent treatment.”

The cause of the collision was not yet known, Meiring said.
