MIDDELBURG - Four people were killed and three others left in a critical condition after a collision between a car and a pickup in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, on Friday, the ER24 paramedic service said.
"ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene to find the light motor vehicle on the side of the road while the bakkie was found lying on its side on the same side of the road," a statement from the private ambulance service said.
"Upon closer inspection, paramedics found that four people from the light motor vehicle had sustained numerous fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead by other services."
Paramedics transported two people from the car and the driver of the bakkie to nearby hospitals for treatment. All three survivors were in critical condition.

Police were on the scene investigating the cause of the crash.
