Secunda – One person died and 21 were injured when a small bus overturned on the R546 between Standerton and Secunda in Mpumalanga on Saturday night.
Shortly before 8pm paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on the scene where they found the bus lying on its side in a veld next to the road, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.
"Several people were found scattered around the bus. A man was found with fatal injuries near the bus. There was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on the scene.
"Twenty-one others were found with injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Their injuries ranged from scrapes and bruises while some sustained several fractures.
"The exact cause for the incident is not yet known. However, bystanders on the scene explained that the driver apparently tried to overtake another vehicle when he lost control and veered off the road," Vermaak said.
