Mpumalanga - A DA complaint about the state of 32 hospitals in Mpumalanga will be investigated by the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).
In a letter addressed to Democratic Alliance health spokesman James Masango, SAHRC provincial manager Eric Mokonyama said on Tuesday it would undertake to probe the state of affairs at the hospitals.
“This letter is to confirm that your complaint falls within the mandate of the SAHRC and will be investigated,” Mokonyama wrote.
Masango said the complaint was laid with the SAHRC last Tuesday.
The DA was concerned about a moratorium on the filling of vacancies, shortages of health professionals, and insufficient maintenance and infrastructure development at the hospitals.
Masango welcomed Mpumalanga premier David Mabuza's undertaking to visit hospitals and fire employees who failed to do their duties. However, he said the DA questioned the motives behind Mabuza's “sudden interest”. - Sapa
