DURBAN - Eskom does not expect to implement loadshedding on Friday, but there is still a possibility of rotational blackouts.

"The power generation system remains constrained and vulnerable. During peak hours we are utilising emergency generation reserves to supplement supply, and may have to implement loadshedding at short notice should the power generation system performance deteriorate," the utility said via a statement on Thursday night.

Unplanned breakdowns or outages were at 11 182MW at 4.10 pm on Thursday, and planned maintenance outages were at 4 774MW, it said.

"Eskom invites all stakeholders to partner with us, through co-operation and responsible management of electricity consumption, so that we may soon emerge from these difficult times of supply constraints. We thank you for your co-operation and understanding so far."
