10 Mahikeng #CITHeist suspects to appear in court

Rustenburg - At least 10 people arrested in connection with a cash-in-transit heist in Mahikeng are due to appear in the Molopo Magistrate's Court in Mmabatho on Monday, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said.

The suspects aged between 29 and 42 were allegedly involved in a cash-in-transit robbery on 30 September, in Mahikeng.

Hawks Spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said: "The North West Hawks’ cash in transit team assisted by Crime Intelligence and Mmabatho Flying Squad launched an intense manhunt after the suspects allegedly bombed an armoured vehicle, disarmed the security guards of three firearms and fled the scene with a sizable amount of money".

Seven of them were arrested n villages around Mahikeng – Lomanyaneng, Magogoe and Matlhonyane, while three were arrested in Itsoseng near Lichtenburg.

Three security guards are among the arrested suspects. 

"The homes of the suspects were searched and some of the alleged stolen money was seized as well as two firearms and ammunition were also recovered while combing the houses," said Mulaudzi.
